She doesn't just love the idea of her marrying Kaoru, she relishes the thought and has plans of their future. And while some Western audiences may cringe at her traditional beliefs (giving up her life for a man, staying in the kitchen, etc), I personally can relate to her wishes and admire her unconditional love. She's so sweet, so caring, and genuinely finds delight in helping others (especially her "Kaoru-Sama"). He completely respects her and restrains his desires for her sake more than anything else. He notices little signs of Aoi's inner feelings and does his best to show his resolve in return. Though Aoi is essentially the "perfect Japanese woman," Kaoru is pretty damn amazing himself. Despite the chaos of a growing harem, they remain steadfast to each other and only grow closer and closer every day. MMMFF! *restrains from squeeing* They're sheer gold in this otherwise rather flawed series. THAT SPOILED LITTLE BRAT), and of course there's the abusive Hanabishi clan that I'd love give a piece of my mind to.īut Aoi and Kaoru. The only idiots I cannot stand are Chika and Mayu (UGH. Besides our two lovebirds, you have uber-strict but kindhearted Miyabi, obnoxiously hilarious (but also strangely tragic) Tina, and even Taeko's klutziness is endearing because of how hard she tries. I tend to be forgiving toward a series' flaws if I love the cast enough. I just love the main story too much to care, and that centers around Aoi and Kaoru, one of anime/manga's sweetest couples ever.
Ai yori aoshi kaoru series#
Boy, what a surprise! If I had to be honest, the series does have an unnecessary harem and the nudity is a bit much and Taeko's naive partake as major fan service is kinda irksome (though not as bad as her cousin Chika playing up the "Lolita" role). And yet unexpectedly took its place as one of my all-time favorites. I haven't touched the spin-offs)Īaaaand then you have THIS series. Finished it (well, that particular series. Madoka Magica: Finished the anime before I moved, and even touched the first volume over a year and a half previously. Imadoki!: Fan of the author once again. Special A: Saw the first four episodes a couple years ago. Rin-ne: MAJOR fan of the author's previous works. DN Angel: Briefly touched snippets of the anime, and remembered an old friend who would fangirl about the series to me. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle: Not only am I a fan of CLAMP, but I was also on hiatus on volume 5 for over a year. Ouran HighSchool Host Club: I adore the anime. Fushigi Yuugi: Fan of the author, and fan of its prequel series. Finished it (it's one volume, how can I not?) Ranma 1/2: Was on hiatus, volume 8, for over a year, and stopped the anime around episode 30-something. What else can a 23-year old woman do on her days off and with limited literature on hand? (I'm still waiting for parents to send me my books I'm refuse to dig into the library's book collection until I have a proper mini-library once more)Īnyway, Ai Yori Aoshi was the ONLY series I picked up during this splurge that I had NO experience with before: Ugh, okay, so the months of May and June were my manga-splurge time, since I moved into my new apartment complex and had a library nearby chock-full of nearly complete manga series (and having no wifi until now). MUCH?!?!?! Ugh, okay, so the months of May and June were my manga-splurge time, since I moved into my new apartment complex and had a library nearby chock-full of nearly complete manga series (and having no wifi until now). It's not really the kind of thing I'm reading these days.more If I were to start reading a series like this today, I'd probably give it up after one volume, and say "this is well-done, bit it isn't for me." Overall, I'm glad I finished the series, but I don't think I'll ever want to come back to it again. Things are pretty much tied up as you'd expect. There's really only one way that a series like this can end, so there weren't any real surprises in this volume. This last volume is pretty good, though I found parts of it pretty awkward. I started up again about a month ago, and have now read volumes 14-17, completing the series. If I were to st I started reading Ai Yori Aoshi in 2005, got through to volume 13, then stopped & forgot about it for a few years.
